Nature Journaling Prompt 1: Assemble your art kit. Put together an art kit and commit to carrying it with you for the duration of this month. This can look like anything from a Small Hahnemühle Travel Booklet and pen bound together with a Grifiti Silicone Band, to an Art Toolkit filled with palettes and brushes. When you commit to carrying your art kit, you create a conscious intention to make art a part of your everyday life. This also ensures that you’re always prepared to capture any scene that might appear in front of you.
I love having supplies for any project all together and ready to go! For this series of prompts, I envisioned a shared sketchbook with the Art Toolkit Team (inspired by our Retail Team’s collaborative sketchbook!) and thought that a Hahnemühle 14x14cm ZigZag Book would be perfect. I love the narrative quality of accordion sketchbooks and the Hahnemühle paper is heavy enough to work on both sides.
Next I collected some favorite tools: a Copic Multiliner, Red Helvetica Pencil, and a Mini Aquash Water Brush. Finally I found a Demi Palette with Standard Pans in three colors, Hansa Yellow Medium, Quinacridone Rose, Cobalt Blue, and added six Mini Pans in (from left to right) Yellow Ochre, Perylene Red, Cobalt Teal Blue, Green Gold, Buff Titanium, and Neutral Tint.
Whatever supplies you assemble into a kit, keep it simple and have fun! Finally carry your art kit every where you go so you are always prepared to sketch at any moment.
Once you’ve got your kit, enjoy prompt #2 of sketching your tools!
