Change the Way You See the World

Life is Better When You Draw (It), written and illustrated by Koosje Koene, is designed to get you drawing right away. Organized into helpful sections ranging from “Tools to Get Started” and “Do It Right Now” to “Making Time,” Koosje’s energetic words dispel the inner critic and urge readers to make art. Develop a creative habit with sketching tips, approachable prompts, and exercises featuring vibrant, charming examples from Koosje’s own sketchbook.

She imbues the book with her philosophy on art-making, like setting erasers aside to stay in the flow of drawing and learn from your mistakes. Koosje emphasizes drawing in a sketchbook as an act of commitment: trust the process and watch your learning curve develop page by page. By drawing your life, you are strengthening the magic of everyday moments!

“ If you love drawing, or even like it, you already know that the title of this book is true. Drawing can make you happier and more mindful. As your paper soaks up the ink, you clear your head and let go of your worries and to-do list. “

Art Toolkit Workshop

Still Life Triptych: Shift Your Perspective

Join us online on Saturday, November 21st, 2026 from 8am–10:30am Pacific for Live Access to this workshop led by Koosje Koene.

How you frame a subject changes everything! In this workshop, learn about the power of changing your view from wide and expansive to close and intimate, and everything in between. Explore how small shifts like stepping back, zooming in, rotating around, or looking down at a subject shape the story your art conveys. Even the most familiar subjects become fresh and exciting with the practice of changing your perspective.

Using waterproof sketching materials, Koosje will guide participants through three line drawings on a single page to practice variable framing. Koosje will share tips for loosely adding in watercolor to bring cohesion to the finished triptych. Through the process of observation and changing views, Koosje encourages everyone to use what they have, and keep it simple!

All participants, regardless of access level, will have access to the workshop recording for a minimum of twelve months after the purchase date. We hope to see you there!

“ When things seem overwhelming, just do a small drawing. Then another, and another. Eventually, you’ll fill a whole page with a fun collection. “
