As always, it was a pleasure to participate in the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival! During this weekend in September, there’s a lovely buzz of activity as thousands of visitors explore our little town. The harbor is filled with boats of all kinds, with dinghies lining the small town docks and tied up on beaches.
On an overcast Friday, Art Toolkit Founder Maria Coryell-Martin and Outreach Coordinator Cole Morreale led a sketching demo where everyone practiced gesture, contour, and thumbnail sketches to quickly capture a sense of place and to encourage creative flow and inquiry.
Arriving early, there was ample time to connect with friendly attendees and Maria was happy to share her sketchbooks. We were delighted to welcome such a warm and fun crowd of festival-goers, who borrowed all 34 of our demo kits, featuring Art Toolkit Explore Palettes and brushes. They laughed along with a playful sketching demo (featuring Cole as a tree) and opportunities to sketch specimens including a dolphin vertebrae, loaned to us generously by the Marine Science Center.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the presentation—it was lovely to meet so many new people! Learn about upcoming Art Toolkit events here.
