Springtime Flowers
Live workshop with Sushma Hegde.
Workshops are not eligible for discount.
Join us online on Saturday, April 26th, from 9am to 11:30am Pacific for Springtime Flowers: Practice Brush Techniques and Direct Watercolor with Sushma Hegde!
In this workshop, we’ll dive into painting beloved flowers like echinacea, black-eyed Susans, and forget-me-nots, bringing them together to create a beautiful, cohesive bouquet. We’ll begin by practicing foundational watercolor techniques such as brush control, balancing water and paint, color-mixing, and mark-making.
Throughout the workshop, we’ll focus on painting with a loose, expressive style—no pencil sketching needed! Employing a direct watercolor approach encourages you to stay in the creative flow, making the process both freeing and enjoyable.
This workshop is all about building confidence and finding joy in the creative process, whether you’re new to watercolor or looking to refresh your skills this spring!
We hope to see you there!

Recommended Supplies
Watercolors
Sushma uses primarily Daniel Smith paints. You don’t need to have all these colors, but she recommends the following:
Brushes
Sushma recommends round brushes in sizes 4, 8, and 12 to get started. You might like the R26 Pocket Red Dot Pointed Round Size 4 and the R19 Red Dot Pointed Round Size 12 found on our website. Sushma also recommends Filbert brushes for painting florals. We carry the R29 Red Dot Domed Filbert Size 4 and the R30 Red Dot Domed Filbert Size 8 in our shop.
Sketchbooks
In this workshop, Sushma will be using Fabriano Artistico 100% Cotton Cold Pressed Paper. You can use any brand you like, just look for Cold Press, 140lb and preferably 100% cotton. An inexpensive watercolor paper that she uses for practicing is the Canson XL Watercolor Pad. The 100% Cotton Watercolor Book is a favorite of ours and in our shop.
Additional Supplies
Water Cup
Paper Towel or Rag
We like the reusable blue shop towels available at most hardware stores.
