Playing with Composition

In this recorded workshop, you will learn the principles of composition and discover how to apply them to your daily sketching practice! Participants will receive guidance and have plenty of time to experiment with creative and dynamic compositions of a single scene. Understanding these foundational rules of composition will open the door to greater artistic exploration, and Meagan encourages you to embrace the freedom to push the boundaries of your sketches, letting your creativity run wild as you experiment with layouts on the page.

Recommended Supplies
Pen and Pencil
Any drawing tool that will allow for fun quick sketching. Meagan will be using the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen.
Watercolors and Brushes
Any colors and sizes will work well for this workshop.
Dry Media
Meagan will have water-soluable Caran d’Ache Neocolor II Aquarelle Pastels and Supracolor Aquarelle Pencils. Bring your favorite mixed-media supplies or stock up on some new tools from our shop.
Paper
Any sketching or watercolor paper—check out our paper selection for ideas.

Paper Towel or Rag
We like the reusable blue shop towels available at most hardware stores.

About Meagan Dew
Meagan Dew is an elementary school teacher living in Queens, New York. Her main art passions are watercolor and urban sketching, but she loves to experiment and dabble in various forms of art making and crafting. Meagan's art philosophy centers around letting go of perfectionism and looking at things from new and interesting perspectives.
