Gouache Fundamentals
Live workshop with Jared Cullum.
Workshops are not eligible for discount.
About this Workshop
Join us online on Saturday, June 14th, from 10am to 12:30pm Pacific for Gouache Fundamentals: Learn Essential Painting Techniques with Jared Cullum!
This workshop will cover the fundamentals of gouache as both an incredible medium for painting landscapes and an alternative to watercolor. Through demonstration and explanation, participants will learn brush techniques, tips for achieving proper paint consistency, and ways to simplify subjects for effective communication.
Last year, Jared joined us for a fantastic live demo on gouache techniques. In this workshop he’ll build off of what he shared, taking a deep dive into using gouache for landscape sketching.
Like watercolor, gouache re-hydrates with water and is compatible with our stainless steel paint pans. Consider adding gouache to your palette, and be sure to check out our video, Exploring Gouache, for tips on filling pans and reducing cracking.
Workshop Structure
This workshop has two options available for purchase: Live Access or Recorded Access.
Live Access includes the opportunity to join the 2-hour* workshop call, with an additional 30 minutes for asking questions, sharing art, and receiving feedback from the instructor.

All participants, regardless of access level, will have access to the workshop recording a minimum of twelve months after the purchase date. We also invite you to join the Art Toolkit Community, a space for people registered for our workshops to share art, creative musings, questions, and inspiration! Jared uses the following colors:

Brushes
For this workshop, it is recommended that you use a large brush to avoid getting caught up in all the little details. Jared will have a 1" flat, 3/4 flat, 12 round, and 6 round on hand. If you’re looking for a large brush, we suggest the R19 Red Dot Pointed Round Size 12 and the R4 Red Dot One Stroke for a flat brush.

Jared enjoys using hot press paper, but any watercolor sketchbook will do. We carry Hahnemühle sketchbooks in our shop, such as their Watercolor Book, and the 100% Cotton Watercolor Book.
Additional Supplies
Water Cup
Paper Towel or Rag
We like the reusable blue shop towels available at most hardware stores.
