A flat head and domed tip help create rounded shapes of flower petals and foliage.

A person's hand holds a paintbrush, applying purple watercolor paint to a textured white paper. Nearby, a watercolor palette contains various colors, including green, blue, and red. Two paintbrushes lie next to the palette on a wooden surface.

Rosemary & Co created travel versions of their beautiful filberts at our request after artist Sushma Hegde’s popular Wildflower Watercolors demo last year featured this unique style of brush. Use the size 4 for more precision and control, and play with larger shapes and washes with the size 8.

A flat paintbrush rests beside two wavy strokes of yellow paint on a white surface.

Filbert brushes can be used on their flat side to create broad strokes with rounded ends. Turn the brush to the thin side to draw fine lines and marks, suggesting subjects like stems and leaves. Experiment with drawing the brush upwards or downwards, and explore the range of marks you can make!
