Introducing the Salish Waves Folio Palette

We’re excited to share our latest limited-edition palette: the Salish Waves Folio Palette!

A project many months in the making, a limited quantity of this palette was first made available in-person at Sketcher Fest Edmonds, and online and in our retail shop today, while supplies last.

A person with curly hair, wearing a light cardigan and a blue dress, stands barefoot on a sandy surface, holding a small turquoise object with wave patterns.
A teal notebook with white wave patterns lies on a bed of dry grass and pine needles, surrounded by earthy tones.

A Design Inspired by the Salish Sea

Inspired by the movement of light across the Salish Sea, the limited-edition Salish Waves Folio Palette features a teal finish wrapped in bold, flowing white lines. The pattern evokes shifting currents, tide lines, and the way sunlight ripples across the water.

A turquoise box with a white wave pattern sits on a textured surface that features yellow and gray hues.

Designed in celebration of Art Toolkit Founder and Expeditionary Artist Maria Coryell-Martin’s Salish Explorations exhibit, the Salish Waves Folio Palette nods to Maria’s time sketching, painting, swimming, and exploring the shorelines of the Pacific Northwest. When asked once to describe the color of water, Maria responded “water is light,” considering the reflections of the atmosphere, and patterns of sunlight dancing in the shallows.

A turquoise card with white wave patterns rests on a weathered wooden stump beside other logs. The surface of the stump displays textures and natural imperfections.
A woman sits on a sandy beach under a wooden structure, smiling while holding utensils. She wears a light blue dress with a white cardigan and has a light scarf draped around her neck. A pink blanket is spread out beneath her, and she has a relaxed and joyful expression.

Build Your Perfect Palette

The Salish Waves Folio Palette does not include paint pans, giving you the opportunity to mix and match pans to customize to your heart’s content.

The Folio Palette is Maria’s favorite size for direct watercolor sketching, with room for large pans and plenty of mixing space.

A teal cardholder with wavy patterns rests on a blue backpack among dry grass and plants. Nearby, a notebook and other stationery are partially visible.
A blue container with a clear lid lies open on brown, mossy ground. Inside, several small, empty white containers are organized alongside a larger section with more containers scattered around.

Pair it with Maria’s go-to brushes, including the Niji Flat Water Brush and Rosemary & Co R28 Red Dot Large Mop, and add extra Mixing Pans to customize your setup.

Suggested Arrangements

To get started, consider these pan configurations. Combine Standard, Double, and Mixing Pans (left) for convenient direct watercolor painting and space to mix hues, or assemble an arrangement of a dozen Mini Pans and Standard Pans to maximize colors in your palette, and line them with Small and Large Mixing Pans (right) to keep your mixes from running together.
