We want to thank our wonderful instructors, Gavin Snider, Mike Daikubara, Sushma Hegde, and Jared Cullum for leading workshops this spring! Enthusiastic participants from each workshop shared their art with us, and we hope you enjoy peeking into these past workshops by way of their sketches. Stay tuned to our newsletter and Workshops page for the next series announcement.

Brooklyn Brownstones with Gavin Snider

Gavin kicked off our latest season of online workshops with an introduction to painting Brooklyn’s iconic brownstone façades. Together, Gavin and his participants practiced building up a painting from light to dark, carving out a city scene with increasing detail. In painting, Gavin believes it’s important to harness the unexpected and go straight to the blank page, embracing the idea that you’re not really creating a painting, you’re documenting an experience.

Thank you, Gavin, for bringing your clear explanations and sharing about the crossover between your architectural and artistic backgrounds! Color First, Ink Later with Mike Daikubara

In this workshop, Mike guided participants through a method of loose watercolor painting, adding ink after the paint had dried! We loved seeing what participants created during his workshop. Thank you to Anita, Rachel, Adriana, and Linda for sharing your paintings of the Basilica of Saint Lawrence!

Wildflowers in Watercolor with Sushma Hegde

In this workshop, Sushma guided participants in painting a lively and colorful meadow scene. We loved seeing all the yellow, blue, and pink florals that you sketched, and wanted to give a shout-out to Michelle, Rukmini, Nicola, and Linda for sharing their meadow paintings with us!
