By The Art Toolkit Team

We asked participants to share photos of what they created during this year’s Early Spring Workshop Series led by amazing instructors Andrea England, Jared Cullum, and Max Romey.

Capturing Shapes with Andrea England

In Andrea’s workshop, participants painted a Pacific Northwest coastal landscape through layered shapes emphasizing simplified abstraction and intentional use of white space. Andrea has a supportive and approachable teaching style, and we enjoyed seeing what participants created during her workshop.

Prepare for Plein Air with Jared Cullum

In Jared’s workshop, participants painted a rocky island coast in Kodiak, Alaska and explored light, color theory, and the simplification of a detailed scene into big shapes. Jared is a fantastic instructor with a skill for explaining exactly what he’s doing while he’s doing it. Participants enjoyed the live feedback he provided, and we enjoyed seeing what participants created during his workshop.

Timelapse Skies with Max Romey

In Max’s workshop, participants painted bright alpine skies, practicing wet-on-wet techniques and exploring the free-flowing movement of vibrant watercolors. Max is a relaxed and fun instructor who emphasizes that art is a collaboration between you and the paint, so we should never worry about making “mistakes” with art. Max says that mistakes are where the cool stuff comes from, including the idea behind this workshop. We loved seeing what everyone created during his workshop.
