We reflect on this year’s Winter Workshop Series led by wonderful instructors Anna Brones, Robin Lee Carlson, Suhita Shirodkar, and Nishant Jain (a.k.a The Sneaky Artist).

Fostering Creativity with Anna Brones

We had a beautiful start to the new year with Anna Brones’ workshop at the end of January. Here’s a peek at our time together, and the studio may look familiar! Anna was in Port Townsend for an artist residency and joined Art Toolkit founder Maria Coryell-Martin in person to teach.

It was so fun to have Anna for a rather unconventional Art Toolkit workshop that focused on tending to and nourishing one’s own creative process. Thank you for bringing your beautiful perspective and sharing ways to foster creativity every day! Visit Anna Brones’ website to see her artwork and creative offerings.

Nature Journaling with Robin Lee Carlson

In Robin’s workshop, participants explored making marks with various pens and watercolors and learned how to capture the natural world around us in our sketchbooks!

Robin is an encouraging instructor with a wealth of experience sketching on-location and embracing a loose style to fill a sketchbook organically. With a steady pace and stylistic guidance, Robin walked participants through sketching the foreground, middleground, and distant view of a scene, and she encouraged everyone (including you!) to give it a try today!

Color That Pops with Suhita Shirodkar

In Suhita’s workshop participants explored using mixed media to create vibrant sketches filled with color and textures.

Between Suhita’s expert teaching and gentle encouragement, students came away with vibrant and colorful paintings and a whole new way to see color around us!

Drawing Tiny People with Nishant Jain (a.k.a The Sneaky Artist)

In Nishant’s workshop participants learned the basics of drawing people on location! His speedy, yet deliberate approach to sketching people allows him to quickly capturing his surroundings, while building an enriching sketchbook habit along the way.

Maria Coryell-Martin shared the notes she jotted down while hosting Nishant’s info-packed workshop!

Nishant joined us for our live demo series where we first got to work with him and learn about the tiny people sketches he makes! Watch his live demo below and follow along to cover the basics of drawing people!

Visit Nishant Jain’s website to see his artwork and creative offerings.

We are looking forward to our upcoming Spring Workshop Series before taking a summer break! Learn more and register for workshops or browse our archive of live demos for creative inspiration this season.
